What will it cost?

What will it cost?

There is no cost at all for your school to use this programme.  We have funded this project as we believe it is an essential part of every child and student’s education to not only know how to grow their own food (which will hopefully raise their self-esteem as they realise what they can achieve) but also to teach basic business skills in a practical setting.   The goal is for the enterprise to be profitable; it is estimated that a start up loan from the school or PTA should be provided of £100 (dependant upon the number of students taking part – this is based on 25). As each sale takes place, the students can monitor their progress and see how much of the loan they can play back; it is the PROFIT that is donated to the chosen charity for participating primary schools whereas in secondary schools, the profit is split between the charity and the students.

We have tried to anticipate the requirements of any teacher starting this project, however it may well not be perfect and we welcome constructive criticism.

We are also in the process of working to establish a network of support for teachers and students – University horticultural students to mentor and assist secondary school students, secondary school students to mentor feeder primary school pupils. Additionally, through our partner Garden Organic, there is a network of support accessible through this organisation.

Once you have registered, it will enable us to email you updates to the programme as it is still in development, provide contact with other schools in your area who are participating and hopefully link you to a “Mentor"...
