Apples

Most of our apples grow on trees in our orchard.  In our Walled Garden we have some varieties that grow against the wall.  These varieties have a special name called espallier.

April
Flowers appear on the apple trees.  Flowers on trees are called blossom.


May
The flowers die off and the apple starts to grow from the stem of the flower.

June/July
With the sun and rain the apples begin to grow.  We have several different varieties look closely at how they differ.

August/September
The apples are now ready to harvest. 


October
Any fruit that is not picked will fall from the tree.  They will then rot and can be used as compost on the garden.

What time of the year do we harvest apples?

'Apple of my eye' is a saying to describe someone who is very special and cherrished by you.
