Compost
What is compost?
Compost is old natural vegetation and waste that has decayed and is then used as a fertilizer for the soil.
On our farm we make our own compost. Ours is made up of the good waste from the farm. We also have deliveries of waste from Marwell Zoo and Covent Garden. All this good waste is taken to our compost site and goes through a special process.
Compost consists of three main ingredients:
Animal Poo, Straw + Green Waste + Biodynamic Preparations
Animal Poo and Straw – this may be from our farm animals, local riding stables and currently Marwell Zoo is sending us all their animal poo.
Green waste – this is waste that comes from gardens and parks etc, for example when you mow the lawn, cut the hedge, prune trees, etc.
Biodynamic Preparations containing huge numbers of good bacteria to get the whole process started.
