Walled Garden
On our farm we have a large Walled Garden where we grow different types of herbs, fruit and vegetables. Our walled garden is built of bricks and if you visit the garden you will notice a difference in temperature. The walls of the garden shelter the plants from winds and frosts, so the temperature within the garden is higher enabling plants to be grown earlier. Also, during the spring and summer the sun heats the bricks. Sometimes you can't put your hand against the wall as it is so hot.
Because of this higher temperature we are able to grow plants earlier in the year. We also have four Glass Houses where we grow fruits that are normally grown in warmer climates and need even a higher temperature to grow.
