What is a Fruit?
In cooking, a fruit is usually described as an edible plant that is sweet, like an apple or strawberry. However, in botany (the study of plants) a fruit is the ripened ovary of a plant. So if a plant has seeds it is a fruit. A great many common vegetables, as well as nuts and grains, are the fruit of the plant species they come from.
