Glass House 1

In our Glass House 1 we are growing cucumbers this year. These cucumbers were planted as seeds into seed trays during the winter, transplanted into larger pots and once well established planted into the Glass House in April.
We have three rows and have attached string from the roof to the ground to allow the cucumbers to climb up. This allows the plants to get plenty of light to help them grow and by keeping the plants off the ground it also prevents slugs attacking the cucumbers. From this image you can see the black piping next to the plants, which is part of our irrigation system.
We have also grown a row of marigolds, which are a good flower for attracting bees and are planted as a 'companion' plant as they are an organic insect repellant; in particular the cucumber beetle.
